NEWS!
04 FEB 06
It's all quiet on the western front in the 718th TFW's AO. With the aborted Netmeet in January, that I was as guilty of missing as any other, things have ground to a halt. There was some flying on MadDog's F4 server but it seems to have trickled off. Life has a way of ketchin' up to us it seems.
Several peeps had mentioned the complexity of F4 as a reason flying seems to have tailed off. More along the lines of with IL2 and such ya just strap the bugger on and fly. Now this was not a huge fault but lust mentioned in passing. In my case I may have to upgrade the firmware of my router which I am loath to do at the moment. It seems that F4 while WAY ahead of it's parent sim has issues or better yet some routers have issues with it. I had to DMZ my PC to see MDs' server. That said a hearty THANK YOU to Mike for all his work on setting up the server. Its may seem thankless but it is appreciated very much.
Also MIG deserves and also TEEG a big thank you also. I was unaware at the time how much money was spent buying chairs and tables for the meet. Hosting a meet can be a huge thing by itself but a double thanks is in order when extra money is spent.
Hopefully we can work out a schedule soon.
Finally in The news is the imminent release of the newest patch/update for IL2/FB/PF et al. There will finally be a flyable Tempest and Mosquito! YAY!! There will also be a flyable Ju88. Additionally there will be the usual extra spit and 109 variants modeled.
Here is the READ ME:
README
Pacific Fighters v.4.03 (4.03m)
Warning
The current version 4.03 (4.03m) is not compatible with the previous versions of
the sim when playing over the network (Online). Both the server and client must
have the appropriate versions in order to connect.
For your convenience, we have introduced different version numbers for the
stand-alone installation and the merged (FB+AEP+PF) install.
4.03 – for stand-alone PF
4.03m – for merged (FB+AEP+PF)
Attention: versions 4.03 and 4.03m are not compatible with each other when
playing over the network (Online).
Add-On Installation Instructions (Please read carefully)
The 4.03 free add-on installs only over 4.02 (PF stand alone).
The 4.03m free add-on installs only over 4.02m (FB+AEP+PF merged).
In order to install this free add-on, run the following:
1) For Stand alone: PF_patch403.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
2) For Merged: PF_patch403m.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
Please note that the merged version of Pacific Fighter will get all additions
and features that are listed below, while the stand alone installation will only
get the Pacific Fighters-specific ones marked by ‘*’.

Ju-88 Notes:
Top Rear Gunners.
Unfortunately, the Il-2 / FB / PF code was never intended for a single crewman
alternating between firing positions due to online gameplay limitations. In
Ju-88 cause we would not be able to prevent the AI from, for example, firing the
rear right top gun while the player fired the left gun. Due to these limitations
and in order to keep a level playing field, the right top gunner in Ju-88 will
always be controlled by AI.
The Ju-88 is no different in controls from other flyable bombers on all other
respects.
3D model of cockpit.
Please accept this cockpit as it is.
New ground objects:
New buildings (coming soon to a Norway map near you from third party!)
Modifications and fixes
There is a large number of small modifications to the entire code of our
simulation.
We accumulated user input and fixed lots of big and little things in order to
polish our simulation even further. We sincerely thank all of our users who were
so helpful in the process!
Flight Model
Reworked the following series:
Bf-109 – increased maneuverability;
Yak – decreased sensitivity;
LaGG - corrected weight (approx. 300 kg added).
Increased damping factor for the ball indicator.
Minor changes in reaction of the controls.
Additional Notes:
If you have a computer with a Pentium 4 processor, you may occasionally
encounter game lock-ups or crashes to desktop. In order to solve that, copy your
il2_core.dll into the il2_corep4.dll (for example, with the following command:
"copy il2_core.dll il2_corep4.dll"; or, in Windows Explorer, navigate to your
sim installation directory, delete the existing il2_corep4.dll, make a copy of
the il2_core.dll, and rename the copy to il2_corep4.dll)
Graphics:
Reworked water render
To see the updated water render please modify the Water section in the file
conf.ini in the [Render_OpenGL] section.
Water = 0 or 1 – No changes in version 4.03.
Water = 2 – This mode is visually similar to water = 3 but it runs on ATI cards
9800, X800, X1800 and later models.
Water = 3 – Fast render mode with Vertex Shaders 3.0 (NVIDIA 6600 and later
models)
Water = 4 – Better quality mode with Vertex Shaders 3.0 (NVIDIA 6800 and later
models)
Reminder:
ATI supports modes: 0, 1, 2
NVIDIA 6600 and later models support: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4

Just a quick update on News and such
After some discussion it's been decided to increase the online component of the 718th TFW. MadDog will be the point man on this and will administer the online division. There are 3 different components at this time. Fighters. Fighter Bombers. and Bombers.
So far the server has been a big success. It's stable, fast and the selection of maps is pretty good. MadDog deserves a serious thank you for the awesome effort involved here. IP, Mig (Epeesolo), MadDog and NCOIC have been tearing up the virtual skies, with varying degrees of success, since the weekend. There have been upwards of 20+ on the server with no hiccups.
Mike is still tweaking the server. Things like AAA have been lessened, more planes added and others. If you have any requests PLEASE email him and let him know at; Mikes911@verizon.net
One thing that would be nice is to see more Skyscrapers online. MadDog, IP and I were flying against a squad last night and a couple of times we were outnumbered and could have used extra bodies. Now I try to call but frankly I am tired of being the one to call peeps. So get yer ass in here. There's usually a TeamSpeak server up and the 718th TFW server is on Hyperlobby 24/7 except for maintenance about one hour a day. Mike's put lots of work and money into this and it's a damn good thing to do so FLY!
First fire up TEAMSPEAK and join my IP (to get the current one look at my post on the board it lists it there) Join up. If no one's there just hang out. Someone usually drops in during the evening. Then look in Hyperlobby (the latest version) and look for the 718TFW server. Even if no one is there just join in and wait till someone shows up.
OK that's enough for now.
